The first iteration of IO was accomplished over one summer before Burningman 2002. This project was created using budget items and improvised design. The main console was constructed using a silver-painted cabinet, salvaged knobs, and painted PVC tubing as amplifers for speakers.

The effect was rather interesting, with the sound taking on the character of the tubes which were tuned to harmonics based on their length and diameters.
